A maximum of five lineup changes could be made by Philippe Clement before the Rangers’ return to SPFL action on Sunday against Aberdeen.

In the last match before the international break, the Gers defeated Livingston 2-0. James Tavernier and Cyriel Dessers goals gave the team all three points despite a significantly altered starting lineup.

But, with several players returning from international duty and the manager having more time to work with the team, the manager may opt to go back to a more comfortable starting lineup at Pittodrie on Sunday.

After a hectic stretch of the season, goalie Jack Butland has had time to rest and recover. He should be back in the net after establishing himself as the best at Ibrox.

Since Clement joined the team, James Tavernier’s play has improved, and he will continue to play right back, with Connor Goldson maintaining his position as the starting central defender. Ben Davies ought to join him after having had time to heal and rest during the break. His partner has switched around a few times, with Leon Balogun being the favourite most recently.

Borna Barisic, the left-back, has been linked to leaving Ibrox because his contract is expiring. Ridvan Yilmaz has also had questions raised about his future, but he should start this game and should get the nod over the more seasoned Croatian.

With his dynamic style in midfield, John Lundstram has established himself as a top performer and should continue to hold his position. However, the manager is hoping that Nicolas Raskin, who suffered an injury not too long ago, will be able to return to the lineup ahead of Ryan Jack in order to provide a little more flair.

Todd Cantwell is still the superior player and should be selected on the right, but forward Ross McCausland impressed in his first start against Livingston and earned a senior call-up for the Northern Ireland national team.

Despite his lack of goals in recent weeks, Abdallah Sima has solidified his position on the left with his outstanding form. Sam Lammers, the number ten, has appeared more polished since Clement joined the team, but Tom Lawrence is more innate and merits a second start.

Although Dessers scored a goal, his overall play has been lacking; Danilo, on the other hand, has thrived and is currently the team’s best striker option.
