According to a recent report, one of Glasgow Rangers’ bright prospects may be heading out the door before January of next year.
Rangers recent departures
The Ibrox team approved the sales of 11 players in total over the summer. Three of those players were sent out on loan to gain more playing time and experience for the remainder of the season, while the other eight players left on a permanent basis.
At the end of their contracts, John Lundstram, Borna Barisic, Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe, Jon McLaughlin, and Leon Balogun of the Light Blues will have reached their expiration, so they too may soon be heading out the door (contracts with the Rangers).
The Ibrox team, now led by Philippe Clement, also needs to decide what to do with right-winger Ross McCausland, another squad member whose contract expires at the end of the current campaign. Chiefs, however, seem eager to keep him around for the time being.
In an attempt to ward off any possible interest during the upcoming transfer window, the Northern Ireland youth international is reportedly set to table new terms. However, if the following update is accurate, the 20-year-old has already caught the attention of two Serie A clubs and may decide to leave the Scottish Premiership.
Ross McCausland is desired by AS Roma and Atlanta
Before January, Atalanta and AS Roma are reportedly interested in McCausland, according to outlet TuttoMercatoWeb (via Sport Witness). The Italian pair is one of “many clubs” that are closely watching his performances; however, the two in question are specifically “monitoring him through their scouts.”
Although negotiations have not yet begun, the forward’s contract status indicates that he “may represent an opportunity” in the upcoming season, where, should a pre-contract agreement be reached, his cost could be as low as €450k (£392k).
Rangers should hold onto McCausland’s “superb talent”
Even though McCausland has only made nine senior appearances for Rangers, Clement will be aware that he could be a highly promising prospect with a tonne of untapped potential. As such, it is imperative that the club secures McCausland’s future because he will be an important member of the Glasgow team.
The County Antrim native has amassed 20 involvements, 14 goals, and 6 assists in 59 appearances since the beginning of his career (Transfermarkt – McCausland stats), demonstrating his ability to create and convert opportunities in the closing third with relative ease.
Since breaking onto the professional scene, the Teddy Bears starlet has been used in four different positions across the grass. This versatility includes playing two roles in the midfield and out wide on both the left and right flanks. As such, he’s a great option to have in the building in case of any unanticipated injuries.
Journalist Josh Bunting claims that McCausland is a “superb talent,” and the mere prospect of losing him could be devastating. As such, everyone connected to the team is likely hoping that he agrees to a new contract rather than opting to leave for better opportunities in January.
