PHIL PARKINSON says defeats have become harder to take because Wrexham are not used to losing games.
The Reds, beaten just three times, enjoyed a record-breaking 2022-23 campaign, culminating in the National League title and return to the EFL following a 15-year absence.
After a slow start to the League Two season, Wrexham quickly found their feet and were unbeaten in 11-games before Saturday’s 2-0 reverse against Accrington Stanley.
It was still only a third defeat in 18 league outings, leaving the Reds fourth in the table, and Parkinson is looking to bounce back at home to Morecambe tomorrow.
“When we lose a game, we are always that little bit more disappointed because we a team not used to losing,” said Parkinson.
“The supporters are used to seeing us winning.
“I think it was day when things caught up with us a little bit and whenever you lose, you look at the reasons why which we’ve done as staff; rectify them this week in training, and then start another run at the weekend.
“We would love to say we are going to win every single game and in fairness, we haven’t done too bad in the quest to achieve that.
“We lost on Saturday, a harsh decision which changed the game went against us with the penalty, but equally we know we can do better.”
Wrexham picked up some stand-out away wins at the likes of Mansfield Town and Notts County before going down to a first defeat since September against Accrington at The Crown Ground.
Parkinson is expecting an immediate reaction from the Reds, who are eight points behind leaders Stockport County, against ninth placed Morecambe.
“We are a group that sticks together,” he added.
“We have had some really tough games of late and we have dealt with them really well, and at times we have been missed key players.
“We are in a strong position and we are looking forward to building on that.
“Their manager has just left to go to Ross County but Morecambe are just outside the play-offs.
“They are another team that came down last season and it will be another tough game but one we are obviously capable of getting a result in.
“We have got a great record here at The Racecourse but it is about regrouping and getting ready to put in a really good Wrexham performance at the weekend.”
