After an absence of six months The Celtic Star was today invited to a media conference with Fran Alonso. Jessica Elliott was there asking all the questions.

Fran Alonso confirmed to The Celtic Star that Kit Loferski will be side-lined until the new year but should be back early in 2024 easing fears that the injury out top goalscorer is carrying was set to keep her out long term.

The American striker joined Celtic last season and has certainly made her mark, particularly in this campaign This season, she has made 11 appearances, scoring eight goals and getting four assists.

After our last game against Hamilton, Loferski was spotted on crutches, wearing a moon boot. Worried supporters were hoping that this was simply a precautionary measure after she suffered an injury in October. She has made the odd substitute appearance since the injury but has been in-and-out of the matchday squad.

Earlier today Fran Alonso updated The Celtic Star on Kit Loferski’s injury: “It is not a major thing, but we need to be precautious. We don’t want to risk her. We won’t see her probably in the next three games, but she will be fit and available for our first game in the cup in January.”

This means that she will miss the final two home games of 2023, those being Aberdeen and Spartans, as well as our away trip to Hearts in the capital. Although she’s going to be out for the rest of the year, we can all look forward to seeing her return for our third round Women’s Scottish Cup tie against Ayr United on Sunday 7th January.

Fran Alonso passes on instructions to Chloe Craig
The even better news to take from all of this is that she will be back before our Sky Sports cup semi-final tie against theRangers. So, her presence will be a welcome addition to the Celtic side who will be looking for revenge after that frustrating 2-1 recent defeat against them in the SWPL1.
