Ross McCausland, a Northern Ireland international, and Rangers are said to have reached an agreement on a new deal that will keep the former Linfield kid at Ibrox until 2027.
McCausland had entered the final year of his current contract at the Glasgow giants. He made his senior debut for Michael O’Neill’s team in their 4-0 loss to Finland last week and was not used as a substitute against Denmark.
The 20-year-old has participated in four of Rangers’ past five games across all competitions after receiving his first Rangers start earlier this month from Philippe Clement.
Although he had drawn interest from teams like Brentford in the Premier League and AS Roma in Serie A under Jose Mourinho, it now appears that McCausland will stay at Rangers.
Top Ranger Ross McCausland has agreed to sign a new, long-term contract that will last until June 2027, according to a tweet sent by Fabrizio Romano to his 19.2 million followers on X.
Done and sealed, ready for signature within the next 24 or 48 hours. The club prioritised a new contract after Ross made his international debut and impressed, drawing interest from major league teams.
In the past few days, Clement had maintained his composure regarding McCausland’s contract status, having been pleased with his performance against Livingston.
He stated, “That’s always something for the player and his agent,” before Sunday’s Rangers vs. Aberdeen match. “We’re discussing a new contract with him. That feels right to me, but first things must be put in writing.
I could have handled the matter differently and allowed him to sign a contract before allowing him to participate or make a start. Since I am aware of Ross’s importance to Glasgow Rangers, I refrained from doing that.
He also received an international call-up following his impressive performance in the match against Livingston. In addition, he initiated a game. I firmly believe that the story will turn out well and that we are headed in the right direction.
