Concerns have increased due to the international break before Sunday’s visit from Aston Villa.

As the Premier League season began, Tottenham took yet another hit to their injury report.

With Rodrigo Bentancur and Destiny Udogie eligible to start against Aston Villa, Ange Postecoglou had hoped that his team’s injury woes were beginning to ease. However, the former’s comeback was cut short due to an ankle injury.

After such a long ACL absence, Spurs will now be concerned about his fitness, and fellow midfielder Pape Sarr needs to recover from an injury. Long-term injuries still plague James Maddison and Micky van de Ven, and Richarlison will miss a few more weeks following surgery to address a persistent groyne problem.

Here is a look at the most recent injuries sustained by Tottenham as the issues worsen…

Rodrigo Bentancur
The midfielder was the best player on the pitch during his first start since fracturing his ACL in February, but his comeback was cut short by a strong tackle from Matty Cash halfway through the first half.

After the game, Bentancur attempted to carry on but quickly gave the sign to stop, and he was observed limping out of the stadium.

Following the game, Postecoglou stated, “I believe it’s his ankle.” It was a mediocre tackle. I felt he got the game going really well. Another injury is the last thing we need. Bentancur has nine injured players, compared to our eight. Ashley Phillips passed away during the week as well. It’s just the circumstances we find ourselves in right now.

Possible date of return: Not specified

Pape Sarr

Pape Matar Sarr sustained a muscle injury while playing for Senegal during the international break, and it was decided that he was not well enough to take on Aston Villa.

“We’re just checking on Pape Sarr, who has an issue coming back from the international team as well,” Postecoglou stated prior to the defeat to Aston Villa. Since he didn’t train today, we’ll see how he is tomorrow.”

Despite missing Friday’s practise, he now has one week to recover in time to play Manchester City this coming weekend.

Possible return date: December 3, 2023, Sunday, against Manchester City

Micky van der Ven

Micky van de Ven’s incredible Spurs debut has come to an end due to a serious hamstring injury sustained during the team’s loss to Chelsea.

It is anticipated that the center-back won’t return until the new year after pulling up while chasing the ball.

With a mysterious Instagram photo of himself wearing a Spurs shirt and an hourglass emoji last week, Van van Ven sparked excitement among the Spurs fan base. However, it’s understood that his return timeline has not gotten any better.

Possible date of return: January 2024

James Maddison

James Maddison, a key midfield player, has promised to return “better and stronger” after suffering an ankle injury against Chelsea.

Spurs will suffer a severe blow if he is sidelined until January. His absence was noticeable in the team’s most recent late loss to Wolves.

“Madders is much worse than we initially believed; the following day, it got worse. Before the international break, the Spurs manager acknowledged, “Again, into the New Year with him.”

Possible date of return: January 2024

After Tottenham revealed the full extent of Maddison’s ankle injury, Maddison promised to return “better and stronger”.

Richarlison

The Brazilian underwent surgery to address a groyne problem, and Spurs have confirmed that he will resume training “in the coming weeks.”

A club statement said, “We can confirm that Richarlison underwent groyne surgery today.”

Potential return date: December 2023

Ryan Sessegnon

Ryan Sessegnon has only just returned to light training after hamstring surgery during the summer.

Postecoglou said last month: “Sess is still a fair bit of time away; he’s longer-term.”

Potential return date: December 2023

Manor Solomon

Forward Manor Solomon had surgery on a knee issue picked up in training and is expected back in December.

Potential return date: December 2023

Ivan Perisic

Ivan Perisic seems unlikely to play for Spurs again after he sustained a long-term injury before the season started.

Potential return date: Summer 2024
