In a 2-2 draw at Harrogate Town, Wrexham let a two-goal lead slip and custodian Arthur Okonkwo was forced off injured at halftime.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
After thirty-six minutes, Cannon gave the visitors the lead with his first goal in a competitive game for the team. The playmaker down the left was James McClean, who found an unmarked Cannon on the edge of the penalty area and slid a low shot past keeper Jonathan Mitchell and into the far corner. Five minutes later, Lee pounced on a flick by Paul Mullin and converted from close range to give Wrexham a two goal lead.
But before half-time, there was still time for more drama. After some shoddy defending by Okonkwo allowed Harrogate’s Dean Cornelius to shoot low past him, George Evans came just inches away from making it 3-1 with a spectacular long-range shot that struck the
After taking a knock to the jaw in the first half, Okonkwo was forced to change at halftime, and Mark Howard took his place. After Anthony O’Connor equalised the score within ninety seconds of the restart, the 37-year-old Howard’s first task was to pick the ball out of the back of the net. The hosts unexpectedly had the upper hand, but they were unable to test the Wrexham custodian, and both sides had to settle for a point in the end.
THE MVP Cannon broke the tie at Harrogate with a pinpoint strike to get his team going. The 27-year-old will never forget the evening as it is his first competitive goal for his new team.
THE MAJOR SLagger
Okonkwo had a difficult evening because he was substituted off the pitch at halftime due to a facial injury. After joining Wrexham on loan from Arsenal in the summer, the goalie has been enjoying his time there. Hopefully, his injury is not too serious. Against Morecambe last time out, he recorded his sixth League Two clean sheet of the season, demonstrating his growing importance to Phil Parkinson’s team.
NEXT WHAT HAPPENS?
Wrexham’s focus will now be on the FA Cup rather than League Two. Parkinson’s team will be vying for a spot in the actual third round when they play National League team Yeovil Town at the SToK Racecourse Ground next.
