The club icon delivered his assessment, concluding that the former Monaco manager is suffering from a poor summer.
Impressive Rangers icon Ally McCoist acknowledges that he is supporting Philippe Clement, but he thinks the Ibrox boss’s tenure will be determined by his success in the summer market.
The club icon gave the Belgian his first report card, and McCoist thinks the former Monaco manager is suffering as a result of Michael Beale’s disastrous summer transfer window. Since their arrival, Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers, and Jose Cifuentes have all faced significant challenges. And McCoist now thinks that in order to give his Ibrox makeover a boost, Clement needs market support.
The Rangers legend said, speaking on talkSPORT: “He will have to get a window or two to get his own players in because, in the last window, I believe, three or four players were brought in who, at this point in time, look very much short. This is a problem, or one of the problems, like a lot of managers have at a new club.
“A manager cannot be evaluated until his own players are competing. It could take a few windows for that to happen. The manager has impressed me greatly; he’s off to a respectable seven and a half out of ten.”
With crucial away games against Hearts, Real Betis, and Celtic coming up, along with the Viaplay Cup Final against Aberdeen, which is expected to decide the Rangers season, Clement is still unbeaten as manager of the team and intends to cap off 2023 in style.
