Colombia enlists Ian Poveda
The winger has played youth international football for England, but he is also eligible to play for Colombia. It looks as though he may make his South American team debut later this month.

That comes after Poveda was spotted in Bogota, and Colombia is scheduled to face Mexico and Venezuela in the USA.

However, as this is not an international window, clubs do not have to let players depart, hence the most of the big hitters for the Colombian national team, such as Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, and many more, will not be involved.

Nevertheless, Poveda is eligible to play after writer Joe Donnohue disclosed that the Yorkshire team had permitted the attacker to practice with the team.

Which Leeds games is Ian Poveda missing?

December 10th is Colombia’s first friendly matchup versus Venezuela; the matchup with Mexico is scheduled for six days later.

Poveda will therefore miss the match against Blackburn this weekend, the trip to Sunderland a few days later, and the match at home against Coventry City on December 16 due to his previous absence.

Poveda should return and be ready for selection for the pivotal match against Ipswich, which is scheduled for two days before Christmas, following that.

Is Leeds suffering from this?

Since the team has taken this decision, it is evident that he is not a significant player at this time. In actuality, Daniel Farke has an abundance of options available to him on the wide end.

This season, Dan James and Crysencio Summerville have been excellent, and Wilfried Gnonto and Jaidon Anthony are excellent backups.

Although Poveda has made six league appearances, he has only played 45 minutes since the season’s second game and hasn’t started a game since August. Therefore, if Poveda appeared in the next games, it would come as a huge surprise.

The one thing going for Leeds over the Christmas break—four games in nine days—that Farke sees as a plus is Poveda’s return.

During that time, rotation is unavoidable and the squad will be stretched, so the former Manchester City young player might have a role.

While some may wonder why Leeds let Poveda go, the truth is that he has a fantastic opportunity to play for Colombia and will be grateful for Leeds’ treatment of him here.

What comes next for Leeds?
The Whites have had a successful season thus far, and Farke has assembled a fashionable squad that should be vying for automatic promotion. They now trail Ipswich Town, who are in second place in the Championship, by seven points, but Leeds will be hoping to close the gap and their encounter later this month might be very important. Leeds has a busy December ahead of them, beginning on Saturday afternoon with a trip to Blackburn.
