Ben Tozer, a defender for Wrexham, has talked candidly about his father’s passing, which happened not long after his team won the National League championship the previous year.

Consequently, what happened?
Tozer’s father, Keith, passed away from leukemia two months after the Welsh club won the National League and were promoted to League Two. Many Red Dragons fans were inspired to seek medical attention by the captain’s moving social media statement.

THOUGH TOZER SAID
The center back said to the Men In Blazers podcast, “Well, my dad told me that he had leukemia and he was in the hospital.” Sadly, he passed away after two days. It was such a shock since it happened so quickly, but when something like this happens, try to turn it around and see if you can help others.

Many people have approached me with gratitude, saying things like, ‘It made me go and get checked, I don’t want to see my boy in the same situation you’re in.'” It has strength. I’m appreciative that it might have aided others along the path.

THE LARGER IMAGE
In his social media post, Toze said that the reason his father’s illness worsened so rapidly was “because he had left it too late.” He was [unknowingly] hiding the fact that he was in excruciating pain. We would always say, “Go and get checked.” He was simply too terrified of what it might be.

FUTURE PLANS FOR TOZER?
Tozer was listed as a replacement for Tuesday’s EFL Trophy match between Wrexham and Burton Albion. This weekend, when they play Forest Green Rovers in League Two, he might be back in the starting lineup.
