Wrexham confirmed on their official website that Arthur Okonkwo has temporarily returned to Arsenal, his parent club, to undergo surgery for his jaw injury.
The injury occurred during the Red Dragons’ 2-2 League Two match with Harrogate Town last month, affecting the goalie who is eligible for the Super Eagles. As to the report, Okonkwo has been evaluated by both Arsenal’s and the League Two team’s medical staff and will return to Wrexham after the procedure is over.
It’s possible that the Hale End Academy product will have to wear a protective mask until he heals completely. Since moving to the Racecourse field in the summer, the 22-year-old goalkeeper has been in outstanding form, continuing his strong loan stint with Sturm Graz from the previous season. For the Red Dragons, he has appeared in 13 games in all competitions and has six clean sheets. The shot-stopper’s recovery is uncertain, therefore Wrexham’s manager Phil Parkinson will be hoping he gets back into the game soon to help the team reach their goals for the year.
With 37 points from 20 games, they are now ranked second in League Two. They have advanced to the FA Cup third round as well.
