Ben Tozer, the captain of Wrexham, acknowledges that during Cheltenham’s FA Cup match against Manchester City, he wanted to hurl the ball at Pep Guardiola’s head.

Consequently, what happened?
The Red Dragons hero faced the Premier League winners only a few months before Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds enticed him to move to North Wales. He was nine minutes away from completing a cup giant-killing Manchester City, and he nearly pulled off a memorable scalp. Ultimately, Cheltenham lost 3-1.

THOUGH TOZER SAID
Tozer, a seasoned defender, revealed to the Men In Blazers podcast that he was well aware of the danger that the Catalan coach posed when he attempted a long throw. “I’m wanting to throw it at his head!” the veteran defender said. Write a tale! It is, in my opinion, the ultimate sign of respect. It reminds me of a tennis player showing up, respecting their opponent, and completing their assigned tasks. Whenever I attempted a throw-in, they would say, “Ref, it’s back five yards.” Naturally, I’m attempting to gain an extra three or four yards, but it demonstrated that we were the superior squad and that we were under their skin.

THE LARGER IMAGE
Tozer continued, “I try and take the positives from it,” in reference to other City players’ frequent displays of gamesmanship in relation to his attempts to loft long balls toward the box. That, to me, is the height of respect. Guardiola is taking all necessary steps to win the match. He’s not thinking, “I’m just going to let them do what they want because it’s little old Cheltenham.” No, he’s thinking that this will be their greatest danger.

In the end, that’s where we got the objective. As I’m taking the throw-in, I can still picture Rodri—a truly amazing player—standing in front of me and attempting to enter my thoughts. He was warming up in front of me, trying to get inside of me, and chatting to me while saying this and that. the highest honorific. That is very clever. It also demonstrates to you their fervent desire to win each game.

WHAT HAPPENS TOZER & WREXHAM NEXT?
Tozer is currently a member of the Wrexham team, who is aiming to win the National League title in a record-breaking fashion the previous season and earn back-to-back promotions in 2023–2024. The Red Dragons’ desire to play alongside City and the other great teams in the Premier League at some point in the not too distant future has never been hidden by Hollywood co-owners Reynolds and McElhenney.
