Up to nine Tottenham players are absent before their match against West Ham tonight.

Before tonight’s match against West Ham, Cristian Romero was the only available center defender for Tottenham; Ashley Phillips, Eric Dier, and Micky van de Ven are all sidelined with injury.

Romero is back in action after serving his three-game suspension for receiving a red card against Chelsea last month. However, he will play in the London derby alongside either Ben Davies or Emerson Royal, who are both full-backs.

Though they did secure a strong point against Manchester City over the weekend, Spurs are still searching for their first league victory of the month. Romero’s return gives a club that won eight of their first ten games but has subsequently gone four games without a victory an extra lift.

When asked if he had discussed the need of maintaining composure with the 2022 World Cup champion, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou replied that it was a quality that made the player a strong defense and that there was no need to.

“I haven’t had to speak with him about discipline,” stated Postecoglou. It’s ingrained in his character as a player; he adds a physicality to it.

“I know he can demonstrate discipline because when he oversteps the mark, the entire group suffers. But more than anything, he’s such a strong presence on the field and during the week; it’s great to have him back.”

Although he has received wonderful instruction, he is frustrated because, in addition to feeling left out, he is aware of the circumstances surrounding our predicament.

It wasn’t as though he was the only person who vanished. After Chelsea, we lost a lot of our back players, including Micky (Van de Ven), Destiny (Udogie), Madders (James Maddison), and he realized how vital he was.

“He was irritated, but he was prepared to go. He had the benefit of the international week, which allowed him to play a few games away from home.”

If Romero was to obtain a straight red card in the ensuing ten league games, he would be suspended for four games.
