Brighton and Hove Albion are showing ‘very serious’ interest in Sevilla defender Juanlu but aren’t willing to pay his €25m release clause.

Estadio Deportivo claims that a deal might be reached as the Spanish team looks to sell players for cash gains in order to balance the books.

They would be able to do that by selling a young player like Juanlu, and Estadio’s intel indicates Brighton is very interested in him.

They claim that although the Premier League team may have money to spend, especially following a summer in which multiple large transactions occurred, and given the general financial strength of English teams, they are not yet prepared to pay €25 million for the player. This is true even though reports claim otherwise.

Rather, thus far, their “informative tests” have focused on “offers significantly lower” than that amount.
Although services like Transfermarkt have assessed Juanlu at €3 million, Estadio has learned that Sevilla values the defender—who is under contract with the team until 2026—at almost €15 million.

Since it would be all profit, they view that as a “feasible” sum to reach and would find it “more than interesting” if Brighton or anybody else offered it to him.

It remains to be seen if the Seagulls view that amount as reasonable, but their interest is genuine, so watch this space over the next few weeks.
