Adam Pope reports that Patrick Bamford was ruled out of Leeds United’s squad for today’s match against Blackburn Rovers due to illness.

The West Yorkshire team would have preferred to have the Englishman in their matchday squad going into this challenging match in Lancashire, as the attacker has the ability to affect games at this level when he is on his game.

In addition to his success in the Premier League, he has represented England at the senior international level. This season, he wants to score as many goals as he can in order to increase his chances of making a move back to the top flight.  The 30-year-old’s season hasn’t gone as planned at the present; he was forced to start the season on the bench by Georginio Rutter after missing time with an injury in the early going this term.

Despite having 11 opportunities to shine, it’s probably not surprising that he hasn’t scored in the Championship this season given his restricted playing time.

Unfortunately for him, players like Rutter and Crysencio Summerville have stepped up to the plate and helped the Whites succeed this season, thus they have been able to succeed even without him on the squad.

Despite not having made a significant summer transfer in their forward department, they are a strong team under Daniel Farke and, although they may not be in the top two, Bamford’s playing time may be restricted.

When Joel Piroe joined, he frequently played as a number ten. It’s a comfort that Bamford doesn’t appear to be out for the long haul given that he appears to be suffering from an illness. Because of the Whites’ lack of depth up front, Bamford continues to be a vital member of the team at Elland Road. Even though this season hasn’t gone as planned for him, he can still compete and be a valuable asset at this level, so it’s not time to write him off just yet.
