Leeds United defeated play-off-chasing Blackburn Rovers 2-0, taking all three points away from Ewood Park.
With this victory, Leeds United continued to pressure Ipswich Town and Leicester City, who are ranked first and second in the Championship table, respectively.

The outstanding Dan James gave Daniel Farke’s team a 1-0 halftime lead with a goal in the first half. Another goal by the consistently improving Crysencio Summerville clinched the 2-0 score.

Leeds United finished the season in third place thanks to this victory, but Whites manager Farke said it wasn’t without a price.

Sam Byram, a left-back who recently returned to the starting lineup after recovering from a hamstring injury, is that “cost.”

According to Yorkshire Evening Post writer Graham Smyth, Farke stated, “He felt again after, a long stretch, something in his hamstring. Farke continued, “We’ll need to evaluate him. It’s possible that he won’t be back for this week or at least the next game. This home game at The Stadium of Light takes place on Tuesday night against a formidable Sunderland team. The Leeds United manager expressed concern over Byram’s injury by saying, “There is a concern for Sam for the next two games at least.” Byram would therefore also be absent from next Saturday’s Coventry City match at Elland Road.

Byram out presents one big opportunity

An wounded Sam Byram poses a bit of a dilemma for Leeds United. Byram has made an impression playing on the left flank rather than his more natural position of right back since rejoining his boyhood club.

Byram has played in 18 games for Leeds so far this season. He scored a spectacular header against Watford and contributed to the team’s 4-3 victory over Ipswich Town. Leeds United will suffer from any injury to Byram, but his absence also gives one player a significant opportunity. Djed Spence is that player.

Spence, who was signed on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, is also recovering from an injury. In today’s match against Blackburn Rovers, he entered the game as Byram’s replacement and played left defense out of position.

Djed Spence, a former Middlesbrough player, appears to be Leeds United’s readymade Sam Byram substitute
