Lazio have been hit with a suspended stadium ban and bumper UEFA fine following a spate of unsavoury incidents during their acrimonious Champions League clash with Celtic last month.
Travelling Celtic supporters were targeted by yobs from the Rome side in frightening scenes and UEFA have taken a dim view after flares were lobbed at visiting supporters, with the Hoops fans coming under fire from during the 2-0 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico in the clash with their Champions League Group E rivals. The home fans also unveiled a vile banner that read: “The Famine is Over. Go home f****** potato eaters.”
The Serie A side have been charged over discriminatory behaviour, lighting of fireworks and throwing of objects by European football’s governing body. Lazio have been hit with a €25,000 fine and have been put on probation over a partial stadium closure for their next UEFA fixture – with the probation period set to run for two years.
