Ange Postecoglou has told how he admired three Celtic players during his time in Glasgow for their brilliant passing ability.

Speaking at the Tottenham Hotspur press conference this afternoon, the former Celtic manager was asked if he’s ever had a full-back that good at passing and as a playmaker before by the assembled journalists after Pedro Porro’s assist to Richarlison last weekend.

Ange was quick to point out three players from Celtic that he felt were just as good as the Premier League fullback.

Postecoglou said [Football London], “Yeah, yeah, most of the guys, most of the teams I’ve had, whether it was at Celtic where Greg Taylor was very influential, Anthony Ralston, Alistair Johnston and when I was at Yokohama, Ken Matsubara.

“I could go on, they were all very influential and it’s part of the way we play, and they all hugged me after a goal.”

Celtic are fortunate in that they have a squad full of players who are all comfortable with the ball at their feet but that is a superb compliment Ange has paid to three of his former players.

For all the criticism Taylor gets for his defending, it’s not very often he is loose with his passing. Anthony Ralston is a superb technician when it comes to finding a teammate with a ball.

His long-range passing ability is certainly one of his strengths. As for Alistair Johnston, the Canadian has been impressive since Postecoglou signed him in January and it is little wonder he was mentioned by his former gaffer.

Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that their range of passing will be on show for Celtic’s next three fixtures as the Hoops gaffer looks to take all three points from Hearts, Livingston and Rangers in the final three fixtures of 2023.
