Celtic have submitted their latest application for their proposed multi-purpose facility in Barrowfield near Celtic Park to Glasgow City Council’s planning committee.

New plans have been but forward by Celtic FC for their proposed multi-purpose facility in their Barrowfield training complex in the east end of Glasgow.

Located on London Road to the east of Celtic Park, the facility will make up part of the new complex that will host both Celtic’s boys’ and girls’ academies as well as being the new training centre for Celtic FC Women’s First Team.

The planning application submitted to Glasgow City Council outlines the proposals for a new artificial surface indoor arena, a combination of outdoor natural grass and artificial pitches, and gym and fitness facilities. There will also be new changing facilities, medical suites, a sports science and analysis centre, and office areas.

Celtic’s plans for the new facility were first announced in 2019 and they acquired planning consent for the Barrowfield complex in November 2021. The latest application describes their new plans as demonstrating “Celtic’s commitment to the east end of Glasgow and to maintain a significant presence in the local community.”

Documents submitted within the planning applications read: “The proposal consists of a modest, modern building set a significant distance from the main road, and within a wider recreation area. It is not expected to have any significant detrimental impact on either existing residents, amenity or traffic.

“Rather the proposal will further enhance the facilities on offer at Barrowfield Training Ground, improving facilities for coaching, club management and athletes of all ages.”

It continues: “The proposal is policy compliant and that it will make a positive contribution to Glasgow with no detrimental amenity impacts.”
