Barcelona’s misfiring front line has become a major headache, as inefficiency and lack of spark in the final third is turning out to be a recurring theme.
In addition to lacking goals, the club are deprived of a natural winger who can tear through defenses in transition after Ousmane Dembele decided to take his talents to PSG. Raphinha’s recent form has drawn some grievances too.
As such, Barcelona are beginning to keep an eye out for promising wingers in the market. Due to financial constraints, spending big on an established player is not the most realistic scenario.
But as they have done so often in the past, Barça are looking to bet on youngsters yet to explode onto the European scene.
Barcelona eyeing Momodou Sonko
Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, in Sweden, there is news about Barcelona’s possible interest in Momodou Sonko, a young 18-year-old winger from BK Häcken.
Barcelona are not unescorted in their interest as clubs like RB Leipzig and Liverpool are also said to be observing Sonko’s strides keenly.
Momodou Sonko, a Gambian by birth, was a sensation in the most recent Allsvenskan, a Swedish league. With seven goals and four assists, he was awarded the competition’s best young player. He also scored in the Europa League group stage.
As per the information, his club, BK Häcken is already licking their chops over the potential sale of Sonko, who is under contract until 2025.
The report argues that the Swedish club hopes to accomplish a record transfer and earn a sum of money that is close to €9 million.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are keeping their options open for now as an array of young prospects with bright future appear to be entering the crosshairs. Another Swedish talent, Lucas Bergvall, has reported to have been contacted by the Catalan giants, while Claudio Echeverri is another target for them.
With a new policy of acquiring young players, time will tell which player Barcelona inevitably places their faith in.
