After suffering five straight losses in the Premier League, including a 2-0 loss to Tottenham last Friday, Sky Sports News has learned that the relationship between Steve Cooper and the club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, has gotten to the “difficult” stage.
Given how uncertain Steve Cooper’s future appears to be, Nottingham Forest authorities have spoken with Nuno Espirito Santo, the former manager of Wolves and Tottenham, about taking over at the City Ground.
Sky Sports News has been informed that the relationship between Forest’s owner Evangelos Marinakis and Cooper has gotten so bad that it is now “difficult” because the team has only won one of their previous 13 games.
The fans’ enthusiasm for Cooper, who brought Forest back to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years, is known to the Greek magnate. It is acknowledged, however, that he worries that Cooper may be growing weary of the endeavor and that new ideas are required.
Since the team gained promotion in May 2022, Marinakis has made significant investments in the squad, adding 44 new players. She is not willing to let the results keep getting worse.
Due to this, the owner of the Forest and his senior leadership group are now considering a number of potential successors, with Nuno reportedly being one of the favorites. Positive conversations have started.
Oliver Glasner of Eintracht Frankfurt and Julian Lopetegui, another former Wolves manager, have also been considered.
After leaving Saudi Pro League team Al Ittihad earlier this year, Nuno is unemployed. According to Sky Sports News, he feels his reputation was unfairly damaged during his disastrous four-month tenure as manager of Tottenham. Nuno is eager to return to the Premier League.
Nuno’s success at Wolves, where he shaped the players the team purchased, is one of the reasons Forest likes him. Because of this and the comparable structure there, Marinakis believes he would be a good fit for the position at the City Ground.
Between 2017 and 2021, the Portuguese had an incredibly successful tenure at Molineux, helping the Championship team advance from the first round of the Premier League to the quarterfinals of the competition.
