Mohamed Amoura’s sale to Union Saint-Gilloise had certain Brighton-related terms, according to Lugano sporting director Carlos Da Silva.

Since the director has been talking to Corriere del Ticino about his time at the club and other matters, it was only logical that they would also talk about Amoura.

After leaving the Swiss team in August for Union SG in a €4 million transfer, he hasn’t looked back, amassing 16 goals and two assists in 23 games across all competitions thus far.

This included a goal and an assist in last week’s 2-1 Europa League victory over Liverpool, a performance that, to put it mildly, elevated him to a limelight.

Questions over whether Lugano sold too cheaply have understandably arisen since their former star is now making waves in Europe. Given his present form, he should have received a greater transfer fee.

It’s also raised concerns about potential future destinations, especially in light of the connection between Brighton and Union that has already seen players frequently switch between the two cities.
However, Da Silva seems to have planned ahead and wants to reassure his own supporters that, should a move materialize, they won’t be left in disarray.

He said, “Every player and every transfer has a backstory of its own.”

We could estimate a worth of between CHF10 and 15 million if we compare Amoura’s journey across Belgium and Europe to that of Victor Boniface, who relocated from Union Saint-Gilloise to Bayer Leverkusen, for instance.

However, if he keeps going in this direction, he might catch up to Amdouni (who relocated from Basel to Burnley). What happens if we don’t gather enough? It is possible that we may have raised his value by entering him in European competitions.

“However, keep your cool: the contract that was signed with Union Saint-Gilloise contains intriguing percentages in the event that it is sold to other teams or, more significantly, to Brighton.”
