Shaun Harvey is moving up from a position as special advisor to become a new director at Wrexham, joining Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

The Red Dragons have experienced significant success both on and off the field since their Hollywood co-owners completed an incredible takeover transaction in 2021, and Harvey has been a major player behind the scenes. Harvey, a frequent participant in the documentary series “Welcome to Wrexham,” will now be joining Reynolds, McElhenney, and Humphrey Ker on the board of the SToK Racecourse.

The Mirror details how Harvey’s prior experience as chief executive at two clubs that entered administration has allowed for that promotion. He was a part of Bradford’s Premier League days, but by 2002, he was having financial difficulties. Harvey also played for Leeds at a period of time when the Whites were hurt by 10-point penalties and dropped as low as League One.

Harvey went on to become the Football League’s chief executive, a position he held for eight years beginning in 2011, prior to launching a consulting company. That was the action that brought him to Wrexham. According to EFL regulations, a person can only be stopped from taking this action if “they have been a director of a football club which has suffered two insolvency events past June 2004 or separate football clubs which have each suffered an insolvency event past June 2004.” For this reason, he was able to join the board in North Wales.
FUTURE PLANS FOR WREXHAM?
Because Bradford’s administration ended two years before their deadline, Wrexham was able to take advantage of an EFL loophole and elevate Harvey in the hierarchy. On December 18, Wrexham, who plans to complete another promotion in 2023–2024, said that the 53-year-old would be joining their board. The announcement was made in a filing to Companies House.
