Due to his flexible transfer clause and the way this season has gone, striker Deniz Undav might wind up paying loan club VfB Stuttgart more money than anticipated.

The athlete may wind up costing the Germans more than they had anticipated, according to BILD, who cover the player today. After leaving Union SG in June 2022, Undav had a challenging year at Brighton before joining Stuttgart on loan in the summer.

With the striker already scoring eight goals and providing two assists in 12 Bundesliga games as well as another goal in the DFB Pokal, the loan has shown to be a wise decision for all involved.
His inclusion on Julian Nagelsmann’s shortlist for the Euros in Germany next summer has been aided by those stats.
All of this is fantastic news for Brighton, who added a buy clause that can rise in response to his performance in the contract that sent him to Stuttgart.

According to BILD, the provision is “not entirely simple” because, contrary to what had been stated elsewhere, its true value is closer to €18 million than the straightforward €12 million. In the unlikely event that Stuttgart wins the championship or advances to the Champions League, that number may also rise.

The strategy is to try and lower that price through negotiations with Brighton and Undav’s representatives, although talks aren’t anticipated to begin until the spring.

The issue with that is that Brighton won’t be as willing to accept a lower price if Undav continues to score, pushing Stuttgart to the top of the standings. It is believed that his open market price “will probably be significantly higher” than the €12 million that has already been set, and that price will likely rise further as a result of his continued performance.
