We are thrilled to have Dr. Daniel Plumley, an expert in football finance, join us as our exclusive columnist. He will share his thoughts on the main talking points at Aston Villa.
Despite their protracted clothing scandal, Dan Plumley has revealed that Castore will still keep the majority of the proceeds from Aston Villa shirt sales this season.
On December 11, The Telegraph revealed that Castore had sent new uniforms to Villa Park in response to players’ complaints regarding the “wet look.”
The finance expert acknowledged that the kit provider would have had to pay for such expenses, but this season’s shirt sales will undoubtedly allow them to recoup their costs.
He exclusively said to Villa News, “Most likely.”
“Obviously, given the course of events, it would be appropriate to identify it as defective kit based on our observations.
The fact with shirt deals is that the shirt provider takes the lion’s share of the profit from shirt sales, thus the club doesn’t benefit from that either. Therefore, Castore has a responsibility to sort things out.
“They’ll have tiny deals in which they’ll take a small charge, but in actuality, the shirt providers take the most of the money, so it becomes a sort of cost-benefit study for Castore; since the deal is already in place, Villa won’t be as affected.
“They will have incurred expenses, but given the volume of shirts they sell, it is likely that they will eventually recover a portion of those costs, provided they continue to serve as the kit supplier.”
