Kenny Miller believes Kieran Dowell is a tremendous talent who might start for the Rangers more frequently under Philippe Clement.
The 26-year-old only received his second start of the Scottish Premiership season in Wednesday’s 2-0 victory over St Johnstone (20 December).
Dowell’s ability to disrupt play and maintain momentum while holding midfield stole the show in the easy victory at Ibrox.
Speaking on BBC Scotland on December 20, at 22:07, Miller gave the Englishman credit for his easy transition into the team. Former Rangers striker Miller stated, “I’ve watched him for a number of years and I think there’s talent there. With his vision and his demise, he has the power to dissolve boundaries.
He was without a doubt among the best performers tonight. He has undoubtedly improved his chances.
steady work .Rangers’ holding midfield spots seem to be cursed at the moment, as John Lundstram is the most recent casualty of an injury.
Alongside Lundstram, Dowell was handed the entire ninety minutes, followed by Dujon Sterling, who is also being utilized in an unorthodox role. Only James Tavernier (five) was able to surpass him in terms of critical passes made, while no other player on the Gers recorded more interceptions than him (two).
Though not very spectacular, the performance was solid and impactful.
During the St Johnstone game, Philippe Clement rotated his players extensively, and Dowell was one of those who proved he could be counted on.
Not everyone had the same experience—Ridvan Yilmaz, for instance, was unimpressive—so Dowell now needs to keep seizing his chances.
Should injuries and bans keep happening there at the current rate, it’s possible that Clement will use the former Norwich City star frequently.
