According to reports, Luton Town is in the running for Young Boys midfielder Cheikh Niasse, along with Nottingham Forest and several other European teams.
The 23-year-old has played in all six of his team’s group-stage matches in the Champions League for the Swiss team thus far in the 2023–24 season.

In the Swiss Super League thus far, Niasse has also been a consistent presence for Young Boys, making 13 appearances and dishing up one assist while playing defensive midfield.

The Senegalese player made seven appearances for his former French side Lille prior to completing a £900,000 transfer to Young Boys at the start of 2022.

Luton, a Premier League newbie, reportedly started pursuing Niasse during the January transfer window, according to news source SportItalia.

According to the report, Nottingham Forest, another English team, is keeping an eye on the midfield player, who is reportedly under the radar of the Hatters before the New Year.

But Niasse isn’t just loved by Luton and the Tricky Trees; Cadiz and Girona, who’s chasing the crown, are also vying for his services. Along with Ligue 1 team Lyon, it’s also thought that Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt of the Bundesliga are monitoring the 23-year-old.

Prior to the January transfer window, Niasse is reportedly drawing interest from Young Boys, with Raphael Wicky’s team putting up a sizable asking price for the midfielder.

The Swiss champions are reportedly hoping to receive between €10 million (£8.7 million) and €15 million (£13 million) for the midfield player, who participated in all but five minutes of his team’s Champions League run.

The Hatters are apparently examining the prospect of ending Albert Sambi Lokonga’s loan from Arsenal as part of Rob Edwards’s team’s midfield reorganization plans for the New Year.

Due to a severe hamstring injury, the former Belgium international has only appeared in four Premier League games this season. Luton feels that his loan position in the squad should be more effectively utilized.

If Marvelous Nakamba is unable to play again, Lokonga may stay in the engine room with former Chelsea player Ross Barkley when Eddie Howe’s Newcastle team visits on Saturday afternoon.
