It’s likely that Kalvin Phillips began this season believing he would play a bigger role than he did during his first Manchester City campaign. As it happens, he’s had even less, and if he wants to increase his chances of England playing at Euro 2024, he must undoubtedly leave the treble-winners in January.

Man City is eager to hold onto the player because Phillips must make a significant choice. With one of the largest teams in Europe expressing interest in the player, he may have to decide whether to transfer abroad. ESPN reports that Juventus, the dominant Italian team, is seriously considering a January transfer to Serie A for Phillips.

Although Phillips is also desired by Newcastle United, it doesn’t seem probable that a deal will be reached in January, which leaves room for Juventus.

Pep Guardiola recently stated, “I don’t know what’s going to happen,” expressing his emotions about Phillips. I’m so sorry about what I decided for him. I’ve stated it numerous times. I’m very sad; he doesn’t deserve what has happened to him.

“The only thing I can say about him is that he is the epitome of the good personalities and qualities I am asking for. And I was supposed to give him something after that, but I didn’t. It’s simply that I have trouble seeing him when I visualize certain things, like the team and other things.

“I feel terrible for him and I’m not really happy with myself. I have to act professionally because this is a company, therefore I won’t say anything [to him]. But I don’t give a damn if one guy acts [badly]. I am concerned about the way he handles everyone, including his teammates. Thus, perhaps things will improve as a result. And I’ve stated repeatedly that I’ll be happy if he stays in January since he trains incredibly well and has a great personality.”
