The AC Milan management is already considering possible replacements for Stefano Pioli, whose job as head coach is in jeopardy starting next summer.

Today’s edition of La Repubblica (via PianetaMilan) claims that Piol may be fired because of his inconsistent performance and injury concerns, but they do not currently have a candidate lined up to take his place right now.

The initial move might be to step in and replace one or two of his staff members, but it’s not out of the question that Pioli will eventually need to be replaced as well. On their list is the Premier League manager of Brighton at the moment, Roberto De Zerbi.

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has openly lauded De Zerbi, saying he is destined for greatness and that many at Milan would be pleased to bet on him. The Arab fund, which is rumored to be in talks to purchase the Rossoneri, is also quite fond of De Zerbi.

When his name is brought up, there’s a worry that De Zerbi envisions a long-term stay in the Premier League due to the prestige and visibility that come with being a head coach in England.

De Zerbi is a product of the Milan youth program and has previously acknowledged that he still has a connection to both Italy and the Rossoneri, so convincing him to relocate won’t be simple.

Furthermore, the Diavolo possess the allure of their past, present aspirations, and presumably the liquidity for an aspirational mercato in light of the Arabic acquisition.
