Before this weekend, rumors circulated that Celtic would be considering Wolves attacker Fabio Silva.
Brendan Rodgers is reportedly interested in the £35 million striker, according to Celtic, and it appears that this isn’t the only time the Head Coach has attempted to get him to Paradise.
Speaking about Fabio Silva, former Celtic striker Andy Walker disclosed that during Aaron Rodgers’ first season leading the Hornets, his former team attempted to sign the Portuguese striker.
Walker stated on The Go Radio Football Show, “A few years ago, he caught Celtic’s attention.” When he was playing for Wolves, I recall filming a game down south, and everyone was talking about Celtic’s interest.
“He’s got talent, skill, and ability, and he’s played at a good level, and that was here with Chris Davies during Brendan Rodgers’ first stint as manager.
“But they have definitely seen him before.”
You may be wondering, though, what good does that do? That was half a decade ago. At least the club is now connected to a player who Rodgers obviously loves, which is encouraging since he has been harping on about adding quality and questions have been raised over whether or not he is in charge of Celtic’s recruitment.
Fabio Silva Celtic striker?
Could the youthful forward, at 21 years old, truly contribute to Celtic? The Portugal under-21 international has played in 159 youth and senior matches throughout the course of his career.
He has only managed to score 32 goals and provide 18 assists over that period. Nonetheless, he scored goals at the U21 International with an extremely high rate.
Ten goals in 19 appearances for his nation, including a hat-trick in July 2022 against Liechtenstein, should not be disregarded; the young player has a good eye for goal. [Transfermarkt]
Naturally, a loan would be the goal of any agreement mediated between Wolves and Celtic. Despite being financially wealthy, the Premier League team spent £35 million on the striker, and Celtic are nowhere near that figure to bring him to Paradise permanently.
