Nottingham Forest expressed their dissatisfaction with the refereeing calls made during their 3-2 loss to Bournemouth, and they have announced that they would file a formal complaint with the PGMOL.
Nottingham Forest will file an official complaint with the PGMOL after losing to Bournemouth 3-2.
The Reds are not pleased with some of the choices that were made against them during Saturday’s (December 23) defeat at the City Ground. Referee Robert Jones controversially dismissed Willy Boly after he had been given a second yellow card in the first half for what seemed to be a responsible challenge on Adam Smith.
The Forest team believes that Jones and his officiating crew, which comprised assistant VAR Scott Ledger and video assistant referee Michael Salisbury, committed numerous mistakes.
In his first game as manager since taking over from Steve Cooper, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team ended up in 17th place in the Premier League. Santo was incensed by the rule that Boly’s sending off could not be reviewed by VAR since it was a straightforward red card, even though he maintained that this should not be the case.
“It’s a frustration of knowing the approach of the referees is a bad one, and the law says because it’s two yellows you can’t reverse the decision,” he remarked following the match.
They need to investigate that since it doesn’t make sense. First and foremost, there is something wrong with the referee’s approach.
“Boly’s first yellow is fair, but it’s then a follow-through with the boot under the foot of the Bournemouth player – the approach should be more cautious, wait a little bit with the help of VAR, hold the decision and they will tell you.”
With Dominic Solanke’s hat-trick condemning Forest to their tenth league loss of the year, the former Tottenham manager remarked that his players and the supporters “deserve better decisions”. “I believe that better decisions should be made for both Forest and our fans—especially our fans.
“They come here to watch football, and all of a sudden they notice something that drastically alters the game. They are extremely frustrated.” This has upset all of us.”
The 49-year-old said that he talked to Jones following the match, but that he was astounded by his choice to bench the center defender. “I have repeatedly viewed the red card footage that I requested from our analysts. Referees have a difficult role. However, I find it incomprehensible. I don’t know what he saw,” he continued. For the second occasion this season, Forest has filed a complaint against Jones with the PGMOL; the previous instance was during a 3-2 loss to Manchester United in September.
