You correctly read it. Here is a list of Rangers players that we believe should be sold for a total of £12.5 million in 2024.
Let’s face it, throughout the last three transfer windows, Rangers have squandered a large sum of money. These players ought to be putting up far more in a Light Blue shirt for the money they are being paid.
Of course, some have been prosperous. Michael Beale signed Todd Cantwell and Nico Raskin for a total of £2.8 million in January of last year. It was one of his few successful moves while at Rangers.
One must consider even the summer 2022 signing of Antonio Colak to be a triumph. With eighteen goals in the previous campaign, he truly ought not to have been let go for the rumored £2.5 million Rangers paid for him. Apart than that, it’s been rather gloomy. Every Rangers fan is aware of the exact events of the summer transfer window, and we believe that one player who was added at that time ought to be let go.
And even if it’s the season of goodwill, there are still two big-money signings who just need to give up their Rangers responsibilities. To be fair, Philippe Clement has started them several times since moving to Glasgow, but we think it’s time for them to leave and be replaced by the Belgian’s own selections.
Ridvan Yilmaz
- Date signed: July 2022
- Transfer fee paid: £5m
- Cost per game: £200k.
Ridvan Yilmaz had perhaps one true moment of quality in a Rangers shirt but it’s not enough for him to warrant seeing out his Ibrox contract.
Rangers should just give up on the player because his contract is set to expire in 2027 and he hasn’t really won over the fans since signing in June 2022.
Another former Rangers midfielder, Derek Ferguson, believes Yilmaz has no future in Glasgow and that, given the outrageous £5 million paid for the Turkish left-back, he ought to have been contending with Borna Barisic for a starting position far more frequently than he has. This season, Clement has given Yilmaz a good amount of opportunities; he has started four times in the Premiership, compared to Michael Beale’s one start.
Since the player hasn’t truly won over supporters since signing in June 2022 and his contract is slated to end in 2027, Rangers should just give up on him.

Ben Davies
- Date signed: July 2022
- Transfer fee paid: £4m
- Cost per game: £80k approx
- Another person who hasn’t quite lived up to his hype is Ben Davies. Although the former Preston North End defender has given it his all at Ibrox, most Rangers supporters won’t likely be overly concerned about reports that he is moving on.
But the fact that Rangers paid £4 million for him will worry them. After eight years of excellence with Preston, Davies secured a significant transfer to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in 2021.
However, he would not play in any division for the Anfield giants, and in 2022, following a loan spell at Sheffield United, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson approved a big-money move for Davies.
Although the 28-year-old was essentially a left-footed Calvin Bassey substitute, the Fulham star’s abilities have been greatly diminished.
A better long-term center defender will be Clement’s goal, especially considering John Souttar’s unpredictable injury history and Leon Balogun’s advanced age. Davies, who is under contract until 2026, needs to be let go in order for him to accomplish that.
Sam Lammers
- Date signed: June 2023
- Transfer fee paid: £3.5m
- Cost per game: £125k approx.
- Is Sam Lammers the summer 2023 transfer window’s most disappointing addition?
That term might have belonged to someone like Cyriel Dessers, but now, working with Philippe Clement, he has found his form again. Jose Cifuentes hasn’t performed well since leaving LAFC, despite the fact that the Ecuadorian only cost £1.2 million.
To be fair to Lammers, Kieran Dowell—a former Norwich City player—has all but vanished, so he might be that man. Still, it would be difficult to dispute with the Dutchman. Atalanta paid £3.5 million for his services, and even Clement is unable to get the most out of him.
- Maybe this is the best he has to offer? Although Lammers is a respectable player in theory, it is still unclear where he is most effective. He doesn’t score enough goals, and his ability to be creative is also questionable.
Unless Clement pulls a miracle and shows he deserves the money Beale spent for him, Lammers will need to find a new place to live come summer.
