Tottenham are keen to hatch a plot to sign 18-year-old Arthur Vermeeren and are ready to offer an attractive proposal to Royal Antwerp.

According to The Sun, Tottenham could hatch a plan to bring Arthur Vermeeren and offer an attractive proposal to Royal Antwerp. The 18-year-old Barcelona target has plenty of attention from top clubs, including a handful from England, but Spurs are hoping to gain an advantage in the chase.

Arthur Vermeeren is in high demand
Arthur Vermeera, the 18-year-old teenager shining for Royal Antwerp since last season, has emerged on the shortlist of many top clubs in the continent. He did help his side win the Belgian League title last term and has played every minute of their Champions League campaign this time.

Barcelona held an interest first, only to be joined by many other suitors, especially from the Premier League. Vermeeren left a lasting impression on the Catalans, who saw him up close during their Champions League games against Royal Antwerp this season.

Arsenal also had him in their sights, but recently, a report suggested the Gunners may have shelved their plans to sign Vermeeren. As for the Catalans, they might concede defeat in the chase owing to Antwerp’s £25 million-plus asking price, which will not suit their pockets in the current climate.

Tottenham have now emerged as a frontrunner for Vermeeren and remains optimistic about signing him as they hatch a ploy to sign the Belgian international in January.

Tottenham’s plan to sign Vermeeren revealed
Back in the summer of 2022, Tottenham did make many signings, but one in particular caught the eye. They agreed on a deal with Udinese for full-back Destiny Udogie, and they let him stay in Italy for another season. Their decision has reaped the rewards, as the left-back has proven himself one of the top performers this season.

Spurs are planning on a similar strategy with Vermeeren. They could offer Antwerp a large chunk of the reported £25 million fee upfront and allow the 18-year-old to remain in Belgium until June. It could work well for all parties, thus allowing the Belgian side to keep developing the midfielder.

Vermeeren could arrive at Spurs fresh in the summer and start appropriately with a pre-season. On paper, this deal could work for Spurs and Antwerp, but many clubs in the mix could offer lucrative terms to the Belgian side to sign the teenage midfielder.
