A glimpse of life as Ryan Reynolds has been provided to Phil Parkinson, as the Wrexham manager responds to requests for selfies in the movie industry.
Consequently, what happened?
The 56-year-old coach is well-known in his home country of England after achieving great success throughout a fruitful managing career that included four promotions. One of those was with Wrexham the previous season, when they broke all previous records to win the National League title, and the Red Dragons are now experiencing a global surge in popularity.
THE LARGER IMAGE
Co-owners Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s “Welcome to Wrexham” documentary made it possible for the Welsh team to have a pre-season tour of the United States in 2023. During that trip, celebrity turns like Paul Mullin were “papped,” and Parkinson was astounded to learn how well-liked they had become across the Atlantic.
PARKINSON’S MENTION
Parkinson commented on Wrexham’s ever expanding fan base in an interview with FourFourTwo, saying, “I went on holiday with my wife to Greece, and there were a bunch of Americans in the couple of places we stayed.” How many of them had seen the video and were approaching me to talk astonished me. Then, this summer, we embarked on our pre-season tour of America, which completely blew us away. The extent to which people had bought into our story was astounding; it was almost as if you had to be present to believe it. The players were being stopped by people on the street everywhere we went in Hollywood, asking to take pictures. It was strange.
FUTURE PLANS FOR WREXHAM?
Wrexham is becoming used to their newfound celebrity status, and its on-field antics are keeping an international audience captivated. This season in League Two, the Red Dragons are riding high, hoping to complete a back-to-back promotion.
