Douglas Luiz is getting down to the last two years of his current contract, and Manchester City is reportedly interested in re-signing him from Aston Villa next summer.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been crucial to Aston Villa’s recent success under Unai Emery, helping them to stay within three points of Premier League leaders Liverpool and advancing to the UEFA Europa Conference League knockout stages. Luiz has appeared for Villa in 26 games this season, contributing directly to eight goals in the Premier League.

In 2019, Aston Villa bought Douglas Luiz from Manchester City for a reported £15 million. The Brazilian midfielder did not play in the first team for Manchester City when he first arrived as a 19-year-old from Vasco Da Gama. Luiz spent a term on loan at Girona of the City Football Group prior to relocating to Villa Park.

Although Douglas Luiz’s contract with Aston Villa contained a buy-back clause that had expired, Manchester City had previously had a sell-on and buy-back clause. The 25-year-old midfielder is getting close to the last two years of his current contract with Aston Villa, and it has been rumored that Manchester City is interested in signing him again.

Douglas Luiz, a midfielder for Manchester City, is reportedly of “strong interest” to the club, according to Football Insider. Arsenal has also rekindled their interest in the Brazilian after having many bids for him rejected last year. Given that Manchester City and Arsenal have both expressed interest in signing the midfield player, it appears that the rivalry for his services is intensifying.
