In preparation for the travel to Walsall tomorrow night, Phil Parkinson took action to prevent the illness in the Wrexham camp from spreading.
Paul Mullin, the nine-goal striker, was not used as a substitute in the 1-0 victory over Swindon Town due to his poor form before the game, while fellow striker Jake Bickerstaff was also out with a sick illness and did not make the squad at The County Ground.
After the win, Parkinson said: “We have to have a head count now because there is a bit of illness in the camp and we just need to get everybody back up the road.” Wrexham is now four points behind leaders Stockport County in League Two.
“We will get a car to take a couple of the ones who are ill back so they are not on the coach spreading it and get the rest in the camp in the best condition for the Walsall game.”
James McClean’s early goal secured a third successive league win in December and Parkinson said clinching another victory in the push for promotion made all the sacrifices over the festive period worthwhile.
We travelled down on Christmas Day night,” added the Reds’ boss.
“Everyone had to leave their families on Christmas Day and I spoke to the lads on the morning of the game about making sacrifices.
“Christmas is important but it is part of the job.
“However, you have got to make a few of those sacrifices worthwhile and we did that with a very committed performance with so many different qualities shown throughout the 90 minutes.”
