According to a trustworthy journalist, Wrexham has identified a second striker who they are interested in signing in January in addition to Jonson Clarke-Harris.
Clarke-interest Harris
Clarke-Harris of Peterborough United was strongly connected to the club over the summer, but a deal fell through before the deadline. In a public interview, Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony gave an explanation for the failure.
“Wrexham contacted me and said they were going to make a bid, which was interesting,” he stated in an interview with The Hard Truth podcast. Although the player may have thought it was an odd decision, I could understand the logic since if they signed him, they would likely receive back-to-back promotions.
Hollywood reportedly gave its approval for the action, but after that, they remained silent. It surprised me that they never got back to me, especially when I saw who they eventually attempted to sign.”
Although Sheffield Wednesday’s Lee Gregory is a potential replacement for Clarke-Harris should Phil Parkinson’s team decide not to pursue him once more, they still have interest in the former target. The manager will soon have the ideal chance to bring Clarke-Harris to League Two.
At the end of the season, the Owls’ 35-year-old contract (Sheffield Wednesday contracts) will have expired. If he does not sign an extension, either because he is not offered one or he declines to sign one, his club may consider selling him next month at a reduced price.
Gregory is being watched by Wrexham.
Darren Witcoop disclosed on X that Wrexham is closely monitoring Gregory while deciding whether to contact him during the forthcoming transfer window, which begins on January 1. Wrexham has Sheffield Wednesday striker Lee Gregory and Peterborough forward Jonson Clarke-Harris on their transfer list,” he said. To strengthen their League Two promotion campaign the following month, Phil Parkinson is hoping to add a forward.”
Gregory is a member of the “instrumental” squad.
Gregory has made 101 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday and has 41 involvements (29 goals and 12 assists) to his record. This shows how effective he can be in the last third, but he can also play in various other places (Transfermarkt – Gregory statistics).
The 6 foot 2 target man for Danny Rohl is a versatile operator who has been used in five different positions over the grass since the beginning of his career. This includes all over the frontline and even a little bit deeper on the left side of the midfield, which is undoubtedly another appealing quality.
Tom Bradshaw, Gregory’s former Millwall teammate, had previously praised the veteran, calling him “instrumental” to their success and saying he had even perfected the position of a striker. Despite his advanced age, Gregory might still be a great acquisition for Wrexham should they choose to pursue a transfer.
