Luke Armstrong of Harrogate Town was the target of a failed transfer attempt, which Wrexham declared on Wednesday it would not challenge. Wrexham and Harrogate had reached an agreement, and last Friday, Wrexham filed the necessary paperwork. However, the English Football League denied the transfer, stating that the necessary paperwork was not filed before the window closed. The Welsh club announced on Monday that, while considering its options, it had decided against appealing the rule
“Having reviewed the additional information received from the EFL and considered this in the context of the submission of the documents for the transfer of Luke Armstrong from Harrogate Town, the Club have determined there is no reasonable chance of success if we were to appeal the EFL’s decision to reject the transfer,” Wrexham stated in a statement published on its website on Wednesday “Now this decision has been made, we wish to apologise to Luke as we were unable to complete the transfer by the deadline and Harrogate Town, who we are sure will be as disappointed as we are that the transfer will not now be completed in this window.”The Club will examine the events and procedures that resulted in this conclusion.
In his 106 games with Harrogate, including 16 last season, Armstrong, 27, has scored 31 goals. He did not play in the team’s opening two games of the current campaign. The League Two opponent of Wrexham even made the announcement of the impending transfer on Friday night for an undisclosed sum. Harrogate, meantime, signed Josh March from Stevenage to take the place of their top scorer from the previous two seasons. The EFL authorized March’s transfer.
