In their opening match of 2024, Wrexham defeated Barrow 4-1, and Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds, who co-owns the team, was thrilled with the result.
Ryan Reynolds, a co-owner of Wrexham, was speechless following his team’s decisive 4-1 victory over Barrow to kick off 2024.
After the win, Wrexham is now in third place in League Two, looking to go up to League One. Barrow is only four points behind them in fourth place. Kian Spence gave Barrow the lead after just 33 seconds, so Wrexham did give up early. However, they came back strong, with star player Paul Mullin scoring a goal and former Premier League striker Steven Fletcher collecting a hat trick.
The first half ended in injury time for Wrexham, who scored three goals before the period was stopped twice due to head injuries sustained by Barrow players David Worrall and Luca Stephenson.
Reynolds wrote: “The love for this club and town: Indescribable.” Mullin gave Wrexham the lead with a free-kick, and Reynolds included a footage of his strike and fervent celebration.
It happens after Wrexham revealed that Mullin and Elliot Lee, another important player, had inked new deals that would keep them with the team through 2027. The declaration, which put an end to rumors that Mullin was moving to Saudi Arabia, was issued one minute after midnight UK time on New Year’s Day.
“We’re happy that Paul and Elliott have agreed to deals,” Phil Parkinson, the manager of Wrexham, stated. “They are two of the club’s most important players going forward. Although there is always a lot of discussion leading up to a transfer window, the most crucial thing is to hang onto your best players. These two are significant additions to our team, and we are happy to have reached agreements with them. Meanwhile, Mullin continued, saying, “I’m incredibly happy.
“As a child, you want for the opportunity to perform in front of the people that support you. Up the town, and here’s to making more lifelong memories!” The season’s best scorer for Wrexham, Lee, added: “It means a lot.”
“There were big hopes when I signed eighteen months ago, but I had no idea how nicely it would work out. I’m thrilled to be staying longer at Wrexham. It’s a unique experience to perform for the club.
“I wanted to play for West Ham and Newcastle when I was younger, but I feel like I have that connection with Wrexham today. I enjoy representing the club and the people of Wrexham when I play. It’s a unique feeling.”
