Due to an adductor problem, Dutch defender Pascal Struijk has missed Leeds United’s last two Championship games.
Leeds United is optimistic that star defender Pascal Struijk will go back into action soon. Due to an adductor problem, the Dutchman has missed their past two games against West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City.
Daniel Farke, the manager, has acknowledged that Struijk is unlikely to play against Peterborough United on Sunday in the FA Cup third round. Struijk is scheduled to see a specialist regarding the injury. However, Farke anticipates Struijk to be ready for the Whites’ January 13 matchup with Cardiff City in the Championship.
After their convincing victory over Birmingham at home, Farke made the following statement: “He [Struijk] is not back in team training.” This week, he will also see a specialist, but I anticipate having him back for the upcoming league game.
“The FA Cup game will be quite close. To be honest, we won’t take any chances with him, but I hope and expect to have him back in time for the upcoming league game.”
Struijk has proven to be an essential part of United’s campaign for promotion. He has played in 23 of their 26 league games, forming a solid defensive partnership with Joe Rodon, a Tottenham Hotspur loanee. Club captain Liam Cooper has filled in at center-half in Struijk’s absence.
The Whites are also worried about Sam Byram’s health. He was hurt in the early going of the New Year’s Day match against Birmingham, namely in his hamstring. Byram’s replacement, Junior Firpo, was vital in the victory as he set up goals for Dan James and Crysencio Summerville.
