West Ham are likely to beat London rivals to the signing of a highly rated Brazilian midfielder, reports have said.

The biggest challenge West Ham were going to face in the Summer was always going to be replacing Declan Rice. They needed players who could control the midfield with their presence, win the ball back effortlessly and transition forward naturally. Overall, they did a brilliant job at this with Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse.

However, as is the issue with many positions for the Hammers, they lack depth. One injury and we see the balance of the whole midfield upset.

Fortunately, if reports are to be believed, David Moyes already has his next holding midfielder lined up, and they’re leading the race for his signature.

Towards the end of the Summer transfer window, Tim Steidten went to Brazil as it was deemed an “untapped market”. A number of players were identified as potential targets, but nothing came to fruition. Now though, they are set to move for one such target – Trivela report.

Andre Trindade is a 22 year old with all the characteristics that one would hope for in a No.6. Strong on the ball, good distribution and (what everyone loves) not afraid to put their all into a tackle.

Interestingly, Fulham were said to be favourite to sign him after their loose interest in the last window, but that is no longer said to be the case.

Our Irons have plenty of incentives they can offer that Fulham just can’t – European football, bigger wages and the opportunity to play alongside some (arguably) world-class players in Kudus and Paqueta. If Moyes wants him, then there seems no reason they should not get him.

Fluminese are said to be demanding £30 million for his signature but, in today’s market, that really is a fair price for someone with as much potential as Andre.
