According to John Lundstram, he “would love to stay” with the Rangers and is optimistic that current negotiations will result in a contract extension.
Entering the final months of his current contract at Ibrox, the 29-year-old midfielder—who joined from Sheffield United in the summer of 2021—has experienced a career comeback since Philippe Clement took over as Gers manager in October.
The Englishman, who played a significant role in the team’s early success under the Belgian manager, Clement, says he wants to stay at the team for the long haul. He has helped the team win the Scottish Cup, League Cup, and was instrumental in the team’s run to the 2022 Europa League Final.
once making 130 appearances for the Gers, Lundstram is free to sign a pre-contract with another team, but he has stated that he wants to have a new contract so he can continue in Govan once the present one ends.
He acknowledges that Rangers have made immediate progress under Clement and says he is fully focused on winning additional trophies in the second half of the season. The Glasgow giants will begin their Scottish Cup campaign after the winter break with the goals of advancing to the further stages of the Europa League and narrowing the gap in the Scottish Premiership title chase.
When asked about the possibility of a contract extension, Lundstram responded, “I would never hesitate to express my love and desire to stay with the club, but ultimately, the decision rests with me and the club.” And although it’s up to me and the club, I really hope it does. I’d really like to stay.”
