Everton have spoken to the agent of Talleres de Cordoba and Paraguay forward Ramon Sosa ahead of a potential January move to the Premier League.

After a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace in the FA Cup which shone a light upon Everton’s attacking shortcomings – Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Arnaut Danjuma and James Garner all missing guilt-edge chances at Selhurst Park – Daniel Campos’ comments should be music to the ears of all Toffees supporters.

Campos’ client, a 24-year-old Ramos Sosa, is one of the rising stars of South American football.

And, after scoring 10 goals and setting up seven more for Argentine outfit Talleres de Cordoba during the 2023, Everton appear set to step up their interest.

Everton open talks over Ramon Sosa
“I was in England,” Campos tells Diario Popular, having held discussions with Goodison Park chief Kevin Thelwell. “I spoke with Everton’s sports director.

“There is no formal offer yet. We will see if we can move forward.”

Everton boss Sean Dyche likes positive, versatile widemen, and Sosa is certainly that. Equally comfortable on the right and the left, Sosa – like Newcastle ace and fellow Paraguay international Miguel Almiron – is a bundle of positivity and thrust.

As things stand, it remains to be seen how much Talleres want. Or, indeed, how much Everton are prepared to pay. LA Galaxy have kicked off the bidding in excess of £7.5 million. They submitted a club-record offer for Sosa in December (The Athletic).

Argentine publication Ole believe LA Galaxy could stump up nearer £8 million.

Toffees face MLS battle
The MLS outfit could see their hopes go up in smoke if Everton opt to go all in on Sosa, however. And The Toffees may do just that. Especially if a serious-looking injury sustained by Dwight McNeil at Crystal Palace proves to be as damaging as it appeared at the time.

“Hopefully Dwight McNeil is okay,” Dyche tells the Liverpool Echo. “He’s calm in the dressing room which is always a sign. Usually a positive sign.

“We’ll obviously get it checked out in the next 24-48 hours. It’s his ankle.”
