PHIL PARKINSON described it as a job well done by Wrexham on the league front over the busy festive period and now he is seeking another FA Cup scalp.

The promotion push is put on hold on Sunday when Wrexham face Shrewsbury Town in a cross-border derby at The Croud Meadow in the third round of the famous cup competition.

Parkinson is looking forward to seeing his players test themselves against a Shrews outfit who are 13th in League One.

“Our aim was to go into the Shrewsbury game in a strong league position and we’ve achieved that.

“Now we can go there and look forward to a day of FA Cup football.

“It’s a decent draw for us and one we are pleased with.

“We are excited to be going up against very established League One team and see where we are.

“It is going to be a great test for us and a different kind of challenge.

“We will assess everybody and pick the team we feel is right to go and give a really good account of ourselves.

“Obviously the aim is to progress.”

Wrexham claimed a huge upset in the third round last season when they won 4-3 at Championship high-fliers Coventry City.

“Everybody who went to Coventry talks about an incredible day,” added the Reds’ boss.

“It was a very special atmosphere.

“Obviously we won’t have 4,500 fans at Shrewsbury because of the ticket allocation but there is a rivalry between the clubs and the game has got a good feel to it.”
