Aston Villa, who have had an incredible Premier League season thus far, are reportedly in the running to recruit a young, gifted defender.

Aston Villa unveiled their January lineup.
Aston Villa will probably be a desirable location for prospective arrivals given their start in the English premier league as they aim for a thrilling run at Champions League qualifying under Unai Emery. Naturally, bringing their dreams to life in the West Midlands would require strategic recruitment in the January window. In a recent news conference, the Spaniard revealed his approach to the market by saying:

“Last year was very, very different because we had different conditions and various situations with some individuals in the squad. We made the decision to let some players go rather than sign new ones.

“I’m not thinking too much about it because it’s unclear if one or two players will depart. We are genuinely certain that the person we are pursuing will elevate our standing within the team. The January timeframe is unclear about how to obtain it.

The Villans have made it a goal to bring a striker to Villa Park in the January transfer window, and Kelechi Iheanacho of Leicester City is reportedly “among the targets” to help expand their options in the final third. However, a recent source claims that Emery is now interested in a defender, and Aston Villa has entered the battle to sign him.

Ronnie Edwards race is joined by Aston Villa…
Aston Villa has entered the competition to recruit Peterborough United defender Ronnie Edwards, who is also reportedly drawing interest from West Ham United and Crystal Palace, according to The Mail on Sunday, as reported by West Ham Zone.

According to the report, manager Darren Ferguson once referred to the England Under-20 international as a “Rolls Royce” and Roy Hodgson’s Eagles have already had three bids for the player rejected. The player has been a staple for the Posh.

Edwards, who was born in Harlow, has started every game for Peterborough United this season and has two goals in 30 games in all competitions (Edwards statistics – Transfermarkt).

The Independent reports that given the interest in Edwards, his present employers would demand a payment of £10 million before allowing the central defender to leave. The reason the Posh have set Barnet’s price tag at such a high going rate is because it is thought that Barnet has a 50% sell-on provision in the contract.

Edwards, though, seems to be among the most gifted young football players in England and has the potential to become a Villa Park legend in the future.
