HITC Football is aware that after reaching a personal agreement with the Argentine young talent, Brighton & Hove Albion will fulfill Valentin Barco’s release clause.
The Seagulls have had their eye on Barco for a while, and they have defeated stiff competition to sign the teenage player, including Manchester City and Chelsea.
Last week, HITC Football made public the news that Brighton and Boca Juniors were in negotiations to sign the 19-year-old.
Release clause
According to sources, Brighton will now pay Boca’s €10 million (£7.8 million) release clause. They had previously offered him a little more by allowing him to pay in two installments, but Boca had refused that offer, therefore Brighton will now pay for his release.
Brighton had to act quickly since the amount would have increased to $14 million if they had waited to move within ten days of the window shutting.
Barco decided over the weekend that he wished to come to England, and HITC Football has been informed by sources that personal terms have already been agreed upon in principle. He intends to sign a five-year contract with Albion.
Olympic team
Despite signing this month, Barco will not be joining Brighton until February as he is expected to be a member of the Argentina Under-23 team traveling to Venezuela for a CONMEBOL Olympic qualification tournament that begins on January 20.
