Michy Batshuayi, a long-term target for Nottingham Forest, may be headed to Rangers.
The Reds have had their eye on the striker for a while. After gaining promotion to the Premier League, they were on the verge of signing him and again in the summer of last year.
According to reports from Turkey, they were still considering him before the transfer window opened this month. However, it appears that the Rangers are now well-positioned to bring the Fenerbahce forward.
In Turkey, Batshuayi has had mixed results and hasn’t always been a consistent starter. It seems likely that he will depart Fenerbahce this month, and several teams are reportedly interested in signing him.
According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers boss Philippe Clement has “made a pitch” to sign the 30-year-old on a short-term deal. It is said “crucial talks” are expected to take place imminently, with hopes a move could be sorted quickly.
Forest’s Premier League rivals Everton are also being linked with the former Chelsea man. However, Rangers are reportedly “leading the chase”.
Batshuayi joined Fenerbahce when his move from Stamford Bridge to the City Ground collapsed in the summer of 2022, amid suggestions the Blues failed to send the relevant paperwork in time. The Reds cast their eye over him again last summer, but their attacking resources were eventually strengthened by bringing in Divock Origi on loan from AC Milan.
Fenerbahce president Ali Koc is said to have urged Batshuayi to make a decision on his future. He told En Son Haber (via the Daily Record): “I have told him If you want to stay, there is a place for you in Fenerbahce. But if you are restless when you are on the bench, it will affect the team. Let us know your final decision as soon as possible.”
