The Daily Record reports that Rangers have been ordered to reimburse former kitman Jim McAlister for over £13,000.
The publication stated on Thursday, January 11, on its website that McAlister was wrongfully fired from Ibrox and that the payment was due.
The former midfielder for Dundee and Greenock Morton has prevailed in his legal struggle against the Gers, according to the Daily Record.
The Daily Record claims that the 38-year-old is currently employed in another behind-the-scenes role with Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia.
However, a Glasgow employment tribunal determined that Ibrox executives were in “breach of contract” when they let McAlister leave last year, holding them accountable for his “unfair dismissal.”
Rangers should be relieved that the legal dispute is now over because it wasn’t a good look for them.
Now that everything has been resolved, everyone can go on, but the Ibrox club needs to use this as a lesson to prevent problems with their personnel in the future.
The entire amount involved at the Scottish company could have been far better utilized, and for the likes of the board and even manager Philippe Clement, this most recent behind-the-scenes controversy is just another unwelcome distraction.
In an attempt to build on his stellar tenure in the Ibrox dugout, the manager will want to concentrate only on issues that arise on the field.
During this winter break, the team will play friendlies against Hertha Berlin and Cologne. On Saturday, January 20, they will resume competitive play against Dumbarton in the Scottish Cup fourth round.
The wrongful removal of McAlister has caused enough agitation inside the Ibrox club, and the Gers are anxious to prevent further unrest on the field when they visit Dumbarton.
