It has been revealed that Rangers’ promising full-back Jamie Newton has joined Nottingham Forest.

On Wednesday, January 10, Rangers’ academy page revealed via Twitter that 18-year-old Newton has accepted a contract to play with the Premier League team, but international approval is still pending.

Following his contract signing at the City Ground, Forest announced on their academy page that the left-back will play for their B team.

Many Rangers supporters won’t be certain of the caliber of quality the team has lost in Newton because he was never given the opportunity to start for the team.

Nevertheless, if the Gers had any kind of affection for the adolescent left-back, they would have undoubtedly battled to keep Newton.

It is unclear if that was the case at Ibrox, but it is certain that Ross Wilson and Craig Mulholland, two former Rangers, oversaw this transaction. This indicates that they thought highly of Newton when he was in Govan and still do now that he has joined the East Midlands team.

In any case, we’re hoping for the best for Newton at the City Ground.

Being a Premier League team, Nottingham Forest has been one of English football’s sleeping giants, so it’s encouraging to see them rise once more.

In the upcoming years, Newton will undoubtedly be focused on breaking into their first squad, but for the time being, he will have to settle for playing in youth leagues.
