Nottingham Forest have signed young full-back Jamie Newton from Rangers, it has been confirmed.

Rangers’ academy page announced on Twitter on Wednesday (10 January) that Newton, 18, has agreed to join the Premier League club but the deal is still subject to international clearance.

Forest confirmed on their academy page that the left-back will play for their B team after signing a contract at the City Ground.

Good luck

Newton never got the chance to star in the Rangers first team so a lot of fans aren’t going to be sure about what kind of talent the club has lost here.

However, there’s no doubt the Gers will have fought tooth and nail to keep Newton if they thought much of the teenage left-back.

It remains to be seen if that was the case at Ibrox but clearly, Forest’s former Rangers pair of Ross Wilson and Craig Mulholland will no doubt have overseen this deal, meaning that they clearly rated Newton highly here in Govan and continue to do so since joining the East Midlands club.

Either way, we wish Newton all the best at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest have been one of English football’s sleeping giants and it is good to see them getting back on their feet again as a Premier League club.

Newton will surely have his focus set on getting into their first team in the coming years but for now, he’s going to have to continue making do with youth-level matches.
